Lovers of contemporary furniture and homewares will take great delight in Chameleon on Union Grove. Owner Michael Moloney worked in design in Dublin, Edinburgh and London before opening the store  last November.

Chameleon specialises in stunning pieces that combine great design, skilled craftsmanship and natural materials which will still look great after a lifetime’s use. You’ll find an ever changing selection of mid-century Scandinavian furniture, with iconic Hans Wegner designs from Carl Hansen that not only look great, but are truly comfortable. There are covetable Wishbone chairs with papercord seats, dining tables and the most sumptuous leather sofas.

Alongside, you’ll discover some gorgeous minimalist pieces from Danish firm Mater, with storage units in rich mango wood harvested from trees which have finished their fruiting lives, and lounge chairs in hand- stitched saddle leather. It’s the sort of furniture that pleases you every time you see it or use it.

Chameleon also offers bespoke furniture tailored to your specification, and a lighting design service for your home improvement or building plans – services also available to corporate clients and Michael is already working on a number of projects.

Aluminium bar stools made from recycled car parts nestle alongside art glass, candlesticks and bowls from Scandinavian powerhouse Kosta Boda/Orrefors and tableware from Rosendahl. The walls are lined with original art and limited edition prints, vintage Olympic prints and movie posters. You’ll even find a growing selection of vinyl record offerings from independent labels, US imports and some old favourites. Swedish lighting specialists NUD’s funky offerings give a quirky finish to the relaxed ambience. You may just be tempted to move in.

Michael regularly visits design exhibitions across Europe and this ensures an ever changing line up in Chameleon’s showroom. For spring, expect some outstanding storage furniture artwork and lighting.
