We’re back with our second instalment of My Motherhood, where we shine a light on a small independent business owner who is also raising a family. Becoming a mum can be a huge adjustment, and you’re never alone no matter what you’re facing. We caught up with the wonderful founder of Mabel and Flo, best summed up as “dopamine dressing for littles.” Mum of one, Olivia Law, launched the baby and children’s clothing brand during maternity leave as a midwife, and hasn’t looked back. Having recently returned to work, Olivia, who lives in Aberdeenshire and is mum to Florence, is now back to her role in Midwifery whilst also designing gorgeous kid’s fashion. We love to see it!
“I launched Mabel and Flo in June last year with no prior retail experience. I had been selling upcycled clothing on Vinted and it was doing really well; I got such an adrenaline rush! In the space of one nap time, I set up the Mabel and Flo website and it went from there. I originally planned to sell upcycled denim, and somehow found my way to children’s sweatshirts. A huge selling point is that all our designs are unisex, can be fully personalised and they’re also very bright. I’ve had orders sent to Denmark, Australia, and Los Angeles as well as all over the UK. I adore midwifery and started my training straight from school. In the midst of sleep deprivation having become a mum myself, Mabel and Flo was something for me. My daughter who is nearly two, inspires my designs. I’m really looking forward to the summer months when I’ll be bringing back our organic cotton trousers. There’s been so many exciting moments along the way, particularly when a creator that I’ve followed myself for years, made an order and shared to their large following – I was very lucky.
