The best of Scottish Art
Art lovers have been fortunate this year, with the imminent re-opening of the city’s art gallery and well known businessman and art collector, David Reid’s decision to set up a new gallery in Ballater.
The Ballater Gallery specialises in work by over 50 internationally acclaimed Scottish artists, many of whom don’t exhibit elsewhere in Scotland or the North-east. It’s a testament to his dedication to bringing the best artists to the area that David has personally visited each one wherever they are based. David is known for his work on two hugely successful art shows which raised over six figures for Maggie’s Aberdeen, the cancer care centre.
You’ll find a thoughtfully curated range of original work from leading artists such as Stephen Conroy, Marion Drummond, Alexandra Gardner and Jack Morocco, as well as being the sole non-London gallery to represent the highly collectible Scottish painter Iain Faulkner. There are land and seascapes, figurative works, and still life pieces, in a spectrum of hues and styles from the classical to the abstract, the colourful to the restrained palette. The Ballater Gallery’s Website is constantly updated and one will see that Alison Cowan’s bright acrylics and Cecilia Cardiff’s wonderful observations of waiters and bottles of whisky and champagne are literally selling like hot cakes! It’s the sort of place where you’re almost bound to discover something you love.
The gallery also offers some superb bronzes and sculptures. If you can’t find quite what you’re looking for, the friendly staff are always happy to show you pieces from stock, because the gallery can’t display all the work held.
Ballater itself is undergoing a renaissance, with the world-renowned Fife Arms, the hugely successful Carriage and The Rothesay Rooms restaurants, as well as galleries, vintage and collectable shops and some superb delicatessens, so the Ballater Gallery provides another compelling reason to take a trip to Royal Deeside.
