‘I had been drumming with wedding bands from the age of 12, so I’d gained a lot of experience as a performer and band leader. Now Glitz is my business as well as my passion,’ band owner, founder member and drummer Mairi Newberry explained.
‘Working with Kimberley Thompson, Beyoncé’s drummer, inspired me to create something really special for the city. We started with an all-female line up. Glitz has evolved over the past 14 years into a really tight, incredibly energetic eight piece collective. The band’s line-up are all highly experienced professional musicians rated as some of the best in the UK. Our wonderful singers Claire Wallis, Megan Wright and Ailsa Black are backed by Bogdan Bratis who was on Romanian X factor, guitarist Lewis Davie who has toured a lot of the UK and our brass and percussion sections. We also have brass section of Kasabian and red hot chilli pipers
‘We mainly play corporate gigs, but we also play large weddings and events. As full time professional musicians, we go all out to make sure everyone has a really great time.
‘We’re easily the equal of any top-class London showband. We’ve invested a lot into our programming and production, so we can offer full AV and event production as well as incredible staging, lighting and even pyrotechnics. We help elevate events and make them truly special. In these times of budget restraint, it’s also worth noting that we’re considerably more cost-effective than bringing a band up over 500 miles!
‘Our goal is to make sure that guests have one of the best nights of their lives. We play all styles of music, with our own arrangements. Our sets last for up to three hours and our medleys and mashups really fill the dance floor whether it’s Seventies disco, rock, nineties, girl bands or even clubland anthems.
