Behind the business: Vee and George Thom of VT Wealth
‘I was brought up in the small fishing village of Portknockie, just along the coast from Buckie and George’s family lived in Strichen,’ Vee explained. ‘We met when we both worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland. I was a Financial Advisor at the time and George was an Area Manager for Business Banking. We had about 58 years’ of Banking and Financial Services experience between us before setting up VT Wealth. Our Son Steven is a Financial Adviser in the business too.’
The business works with individuals, families and businesses looking for a dedicated, trusted and reliable Financial Planning service to help them identify, plan and set goals to achieve financial wellbeing, whilst sustaining their desired lifestyle. Meetings can be held at any of VT Wealth’s offices, or the client’s own home or business location. Virtual meetings are also possible over Teams or Zoom.
The thing that makes VT Wealth stand out, is the amount of time Vee and her team take to get to know their clients’ individual circumstances, dreams, goals and aspirations. Services offered include Investment Planning, Pension & Retirement Planning, Estate Planning, Later Life Planning, Mortgage Advice, Protection Planning and Discretionary Fund Management.
Vee is an Accredited Pension Specialist and has well over 20 years-experience working with both private and corporate clients. The company is aligned to St. James’s Place, the largest Wealth Management company in the UK.
Vee commented, ‘We are committed to building trusted and lasting relationships with our clients to help them manage their wealth and protect their family’s futures. So many people don’t really have a handle on their long-term financial goals and find it a bit scary to think about. We can understand that, because this is a world that’s changing rapidly and advice that was fine when, say, you started a pension twenty years ago, may not be the most suitable now. That’s why we place an emphasis on regular communication and annual reviews. VT Wealth offer a no-obligation financial review.
George continued, ‘When it comes to running your own business, you are the business. That can make it difficult to switch off. Luckily the family keep us on our toes. We have four wonderful grandchildren – Louis, Luke, Alfie and Ellie, that we love spending time with. We also have Rolo and Darcey, who Vee refers to as her fur babies. We are a bit old fashioned and still like tradition of family coming together for Sunday dinner and we enjoy family holidays in the sun and attending King’s Church Aberdeen. I’m also a keen supporter of Fraserburgh Football Club.’
Vee added, ‘We make a really good team since we like to focus on different areas of the business. I love working on a one to one basis with our clients and George enjoys the strategic, people management, financial and marketing side. He’s a joy to work with but he really loves his mind maps and spreadsheets!
And the worst thing about working with Vee? ‘She always likes to have the last word!’ George confided.
