From stunning family homes in Aberdeenshire to sleek apartments in the city, Megan Wisely is passionate about creating beautiful yet functional spaces for home owners across Scotland. It’s a fine balance between sumptuous colour palettes and clever designs which stand the test of time. From childhood inspiration to going into business with her mum at her side, we found out why Megan believes there really is no place like home.
“I’ve always had an interest in design, particularly fashion and interiors, but I’d say my love for interiors came from my Mum. Growing up, there were always home and interior magazines around the house, and I spent plenty of time with her visiting furniture stores, art exhibitions and interior shops. Looking back, those experiences played a huge role in shaping my passion for design. Over the years my mum worked at Laura Ashley and Annie Mo’s, attending trade shows as well as working for local interior design companies. We started Megan Wisely Interiors together, having that exposure from an early age gave me a valuable insight into the industry.
Alongside the team I now work on projects throughout Scotland and regularly travel to meet clients and oversee installations. While every location has its own character, most of our inspiration comes from understanding our clients’ needs and creating a design that reflects their lifestyle. We focus on creating timeless spaces that feel personal to them, rather than following short-term trends. We pride ourselves on delivering a truly personalised and bespoke service, so getting to know our clients is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job. One of my favourite moments is presenting a design scheme and seeing their reaction when they can visualise how the finished space will look.
No two days are ever the same; my day usually starts by catching up on emails before heading into
the studio for a quick team catch-up over coffee. It may come as a surprise but not every day is spent looking at fabrics and furniture samples. A large part of the role involves managing projects and coordinating everything behind the scenes to bring a design to life. Our very first project will always have a place in my heart. We were given the opportunity to work on a large five-bedroom family home in Aberdeenshire. It included a cinema room, sauna and steam room. To complete a full turnkey project so early on in our business journey; it was one of our proudest and most satisfying achievements. Our project with a Lamborghini garage gave us the opportunity to work on something completely different, it was a unique and exciting challenge that pushed our creativity in a new direction.
I’ve recently purchased an older property, so I’m looking forward to starting work on it later this year. It has high ceilings and beautiful original cornicing. I already have lots of ideas although, like many interior designers, my own home may end up being an ongoing project while we focus on delivering our clients’ homes first!
