Dealing with the loss of a loved one can result in a rollercoaster of emotions ranging from shock and sadness to feeling completely numb. At The Law Practice we appreciate that, at such a difficult time, dealing with the legal matters involved can be overwhelming.

Bereaved relatives can have many worries and questions at this time including payment of bills, in particular funeral costs, access to bank accounts and pension payments, and how quickly the administration
of the estate can be dealt with to allow dealing with all the assets. Other questions may be around tax matters, which can involve inheritance tax, capital gains tax or completion of tax returns. There may be gifts to beneficiaries within a Will and there can be questions as to the sufficiency of funds to deal with these gifts. Other issues can arise if there is digital estate  – are passwords available? Importantly, there can be concerns regarding protection for surviving spouses and / or children.

A legal minefield in many ways without the correct knowledge. Having an up to date Will and an informative solicitor can alleviate many of the concerns, but, we are aware, sadly, that more than 50 per cent of the adult population does not have a Will in place. At The Law Practice we would be happy to arrange a chat to answer any questions you may have and help navigate the legal process.
