Although the house has a long and distinguished history, it is almost unknown. It has been in the same family since 1367, most recently being used as a secluded private retreat for the Duke of Fife and his family. Many of the trees in the grounds bear planting plaques, bearing witness to Elsick’s popularity with royal guests over the decades, all appreciative of the aura of refined calm that the house and grounds afford.
Parts of the building date back to the 13th century, but the main part of the house is a glorious example of the Scottish Baronial style, with its stepped gables, solid architecture and cosy interiors. Over the centuries, Elsick House has evolved from an aristocratic place of power to one of calm refinement and country living. It is now available to hire for weddings, corporate and private events.

The house itself has ten bedrooms and nine bathrooms, each designed in a characterful country house mix of antique furniture and modern necessities. There are three large public rooms, with the intimate dining room perfect for smaller weddings or select corporate away days. Catering can be supplied by the award-winning Hudsons, working to your specifications. The drawing room can also be configured to seat 35, or 50 standing, making it idea for cocktail receptions or presentations. The double doors between the drawing room and the dining room make a flexible option for larger events.
As you’d expect with such a great venue, the events staff at Elsick House are very focused on customer service, making everyone who comes to Elsick feel special and part of the family. They are happy
to help you arrange a game of croquet, archery or water zorbing, or a Segway tour as part of your event. There’s even a revolving summer house on the lawn that’s perfect for a drinks reception. As the sun goes down, the walled garden and grounds to the front of the house take on a magical quality thanks to specially designed lighting.
