Competition: Win a two-night luxury break in beautiful Bergen

How would you like to spend two days in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities – with a free pass to excursions, museums, attractions and public transport?

We’ve teamed up with Norwegian airline Widerøe, the newly refurbished Scandic Torget Hotel and Visit Bergen, to offer one lucky reader and their guest a two-night stay right by the Bergen’s historic World Heritage Site.

Our prize includes return flights for two from Aberdeen to Bergen, two nights’ bed and breakfast and two Bergen Cards, your passport to a host of fantastic things to see and do. The prize is for a shoulder season or winter break, so you can travel any time or any time from October 1 this year till April 30, 2024.

Widerøe flies from Aberdeen to Bergen twice every week day and once on Sundays, whisking you to the gateway to Norway’s dramatic fjordland in around an hour and a quarter by modern turboprop aircraft. It’s a quick flight that makes Bergen a great choice for a short break. Bergen is Widerøe’s domestic hub and it also offers several daily flights from Bergen to cities including Trondheim, Tromsø and Bodø, offering great opportunities to combine trips to the fjords and to the north of Norway, if you fancy extending your trip to take in more of the country’s scenic splendour.

The Scandic Torget overlooks the ancient Hanseatic trading port of Bryggen, with its distinctive wooden harbourfront, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are some amazing buildings and passageways to explore as well as lots of interesting little shops tucked away. The hotel’s facilities include a gym, free WiFi, cycle loans and allergy-friendly rooms.

Our lucky winners will be on the doorstop of some of Norway’s best restaurants, as Bergen is also a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. You can use your Bergen card
to get discounts at restaurants or to ride free of charge on buses, airport light rail and the funicular or cable car up one of the mountains that rise from the city itself to enjoy lunch or dinner at the summit and outstanding views.

The city’s museums and galleries house some of Norway’s best art or you could imagine yourself in the shoes of Greig, the famous composer, by visiting his beautifully preserved home, complete with concert space. Your card also offers the chance to take a two-hour fjord cruise or a seafood experience, dining on an island a short boat ride from the city.

Our winner can choose between a lazy autumn or spring break, a winter getaway or even a festive getaway during the fabulous Norwegian build-up to Christmas, with street markets, light shows and the city’s world famous gingerbread town.
