Athletic Edge is Aberdeen’s newest gym. Situated on Springfield Road, in the West End of the city, it is fully equipped with everything you need to take your fitness to the next level – whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned athlete!

Owner Scott Beattie has been coaching for over sixteen years. Scott explained the ethos of Athletic Edge, saying, ‘We believe Athletic Edge offers more to our members than most other gyms. For us, it’s not about cramming in as many people as possible. It’s about providing access to the best equipment, along with top-quality coaching, in a positive environment.

‘We have a large selection of free weights, cardio machines, squat racks and an AstroTurf track, as well as some brilliant classes, great trainers and a commitment to help people become fitter. Whether a member is a complete beginner, a new mum wanting to get back into shape, a junior athlete or a competitive sportsman, if they’re thirteen or eighty three, we work together to improve fitness levels’.

Athletic Edge is known for the outstanding quality of its coaching. Scott continued, ‘We have an Athlete Development Programme, where we coach young athletes to train properly for their respective sports, improving strength, mobility, stability and co-ordination.

‘It’s not all about youngsters, though. We have a Fit for Life class, for over sixties, too. The pace is a little slower, with adjustments made for individual restrictions. That said, we have some exceptionally fit senior members at Athletic Edge.

‘There’s a full range of interesting and challenging classes available. Our classes are limited to just eight people, to provide a high level of individual attention and coaching. There are mobility classes designed to help loosen muscles and improve movement range. Pilates is offered at both beginner and intermediate levels, and, the Circuits classes offers a fun, intensive, but varied, workout. For those who would like to start working with weights, there’s an introductory Learn to Lift class, teaching how to lift properly and safely. Our Olympic Lifting classes are available for anyone from beginners to those competing in events. All classes are free to members or £7 for guests.

Athletic Edge has two resident personal trainers, Violaine Delauge and Anthony Woollcombe. Violaine is a Level 3 REPS accredited personal trainer as well as a Life Coach. She has a keen interest in strength and conditioning and holds specialist certification in Pilates and pre and post-natal coaching.

Anthony has over a decade’s experience in sports and personal training. He is a qualified REPS level 3 Personal Trainer, BWL 1 Olympic Weightlifting Coach and a Precision Nutrition qualified nutritional coach.
