Doctor Siobhan Hewson

There is a particular kind of trust that forms between a patient and their dentist; quiet, time-honoured, and not easily transferred. Which is precisely why, when a practice changes hands, the question every patient really wants answered is not about equipment or opening hours. It is: who is this person, and can I trust her with my teeth? On both counts, the answer at The Terrace Clinic is reassuring.

It is impossible not to smile when listening to Dr Siobhan Hewson, for smiles are her currency after all. We caught up with Dr Siobhan and discovered why her can do attitude could be the secret ingredient to her success. “Dentistry and aesthetics will all be under one roof, after the opportunity came up to buy a dental clinic on Rubislaw Terrace. The Terrace Clinic will have a comprehensive offering of both dentistry and aesthetics. I remember thinking to myself, if I do not take a chance then I will live to regret it”. Dr Siobhan Hewson has become only the fourth (and first female) owner in sixty years of the practice at 19b Rubislaw Terrace, a record that speaks to something most modern dental chains could never offer: genuine roots. She is not an investor, not a group, and certainly not a temporary appointment. She is a dentist who has built her career in London and Aberdeen, who lectures the next generation of dentists at Aberdeen University, and who has two young children growing up in the North-east. She is, in every meaningful sense, here to stay. She loves her work and supporting her patients saying that “Not only can you diagnose and help patients, you then give them what they need and see the same patient in six months’ time to ensure continuity of care”.

It is a long-term view that runs through everything Dr Hewson does. Root canal treatment is her
clinical niche, and she is often referred to by other dentists for particularly complex cases. “I always consider treatment long term as opposed to a quick win,” she says. “What will enable a patient to both look and feel good ten years from now?” For existing patients of the practice, the message is straightforward: your care continues without interruption. Your records, your treatment plans, your team all remaining in place. What changes is the name above the door and, with it, a continuing investment in the clinic beginning, characteristically, with a state-of-the-art 3D scanner and microscope for ensuring quality and cutting-edge care.

For new patients, the opportunity is the chance to join a practice that combines the intimacy and
continuity of genuine independent dentistry with a clinical offering (general dentistry, advanced
endodontics, and medical-grade facial aesthetics) that is rare to find under one roof, and rarer still to
find led by a single, named clinician of this calibre.

Dr Hewson describes herself as someone who has never been a ‘what if’ person. Standing outside
19b Rubislaw Terrace holding the keys, the logic of her decision is plain. Sixty years of trust, now in
its next chapter. She cannot wait to get started.
