Make up artist Rae Mathieson talks bridal beauty trends…

Super Strobing
2015 has seen a new twist brought to the ‘no makeup’ make up look. ‘Strobing’ takes over from contouring and puts emphasis on glowing, radiant skin. The skin is highlighted and brought to life by applying shimmering and highlighting products to the areas of the face where light would naturally hit and light up the skin.  The result? Super healthy, super glowing, radiant skin – something every bride is after. One of my favourite products to achieve this effect is MAC Strobe Cream.

The one feature Focus
This trend focuses on making the most of one feature for a bold, statement look. The eyes have it when it comes to bridal make up, so if you have pretty peepers – show them off! Full smokes and luscious, false lashes give a red carpet, elegant feel – just remember to keep the rest of your look soft, blended with delicate contouring and highlighting and barely there blush. If you’ve been blessed with a perfect pout opt for a striking lip colour – true reds bring an old Hollywood glamour feel, while berry stains and matte
pops of colour give a modern feel.

Sophisticated smokes
By far my most requested look is a Smokey eye. The possibilities with this look are endless – from subtle to full on. For bridal, put away the blacks and choose to complement your eye colour and really make the eye ‘pop’ by using purples, ochres, bronze and gold.

Faux and Fabulous
Lashes are a must to achieve that red carpet, fluttery finish for your big day. Once a bride tries some false lashes on to complete her look she is a transformed woman and there is no going back! Choose a style that compliments your eye shape and size – fluttery and extending out at the corners is most flattering and really opens up the eye. Apply a few strokes of mascara to ‘blend’ the false lash into the natural lash, concentrating on the root of the lash – waterproof of course!
