As the nights draw in and the temperature drops over the next few months, indoor exercise is more appealing. Trend’s fitness guru Rob Currie, advises on what to consider before signing up at a gym…

If you are brand new to a gym, book a session with a Personal Trainer. Most gyms offer a PT health assessment and it’s the best way to plan your training and explore the equipment.  Gyms offer more variety than running outdoors. Resistance training is a great way to change your body shape and boost your metabolism, group classes are sociable and you’ll often find you work harder indoors.

Before choosing a gym, check out the length of contract and how to cancel your membership. Compare the costs and consider opening hours, facilities and classes on offer, location, staff qualifications and parking facilities. There’s no point joining a gym that doesn’t fit your lifestyle.
