The 10k, Family Run and Aberdeen’s only city centre half marathon will be staged for a third year this summer when thousands of people will pull on their trainers and take to the streets of the Granite City for fun, fitness and fundraising, with the option to run, jog or walk the event.

Parents can run the one-mile Family Run loop with their budding young athletes before heading back to the Union Street start line where the incredible atmosphere and support of the spectators will set runners off on their own 10k or half marathon challenge, with both distances setting off together for the first time.

See the city through a runner’s eyes on the traffic-free routes that start and finish on Union Street and take in the modern and historic areas of the city including Castlegate, Beach Ballroom and Brig O’Balgownie before heading to Aberdeen harbour and along the seafront to enjoy the views across the North Sea.

The half marathon also includes a section through Seaton Park before heading past St Machar’s Cathedral and along the cobbled streets of Old Aberdeen.

Music, bands, charity cheering points and crowds of enthusiastic spectators will support and motivate runners around the course as they tick off the kilometres and miles towards the finish line and that amazing feeling of achievement.

In another first for the event, a pioneering initiative to encourage improved fitness and wellbeing in the community has been launched with Aberdeen Football Club. Creating a special red Dons wave, the famous football club will encourage their club supporters with special training programmes and advice ready for the big day.

The event also sees the return of the Business Challenge which sees Aberdeen companies of all shapes and sizes compete for fastest-time trophies and bragging rights among corporate competitors.

But it’s not all about the friendly rivalry with many companies using it to focus on the health and mental well-being of staff as well as a perfect team bonding event.
