Towards the end of last year, The Kitchen Works on Summer Street had a bit of a makeover and has been renamed Seven.

All the things we most loved have been retained – the friendly atmosphere and well thought out food that draws on the best in local produce. Owner George Stewart previously owned both Café Society and The Soda Fountain, so he knows a bit about great customer service too.

Seven is open on Tuesday to Thursday from 9.30am to 3.30pm and from 9.30am to midnight on Friday and Saturday. You can get off to a good start with breakfast, featuring croissants, porridge or filled rolls. Many of the ingredients are local, chosen with care from artisan suppliers. It shows.

Tuck into delicious scones, tray-bakes and home-brewed coffee from beans supplied by Britain’s premier roasters, Square Mile Coffee. It’s a great spot for a catch up or out of the office meeting. You can even hire out the modern rustic upstairs area if you’re planning a bigger meeting, birthday party or event.

Lunchtime brings a selection of the freshest home-made soups, salads, lunch platters, daily specials and sandwiches filled with continental delicacies, or local favourites like Lairig Ghru cheddar and farmhouse pickle.

Afternoon brings a relaxed pace, dawdling over afternoon tea, complete with a glass of prosecco, or a boutique gin and a bit of a gossip. Children are welcome, with their own menu.

On Fridays and Saturdays, the evening menu features Seven’s favourites, tasty small plates and delicious sweets. Opt for a gin flight, charcuterie and cheese platter or a craft beer at the bar. Seven’s appeal stems from its welcoming embrace. It’s like slipping on an oversized thick cashmere jumper – instantly comforting, familiar and cosy.

Seven could be your new favourite number.
