From the moment you set foot in Jack Taylor fish shop, you know you’ve discovered a very special place.
There’s a great deli section at the front of the shop, filled with continental delicacies from lobster terrine to polenta and aromatic dried twigs of oregano. You’ll also find sauces, salts and flavour rubs all carefully selected to complement your piscine purchases.
Rather than queueing, customers browse cookbooks round a scrubbed wooden table, swapping recipes and ideas or picking up some of the shop’s free recipe sheets. It’s more like stepping into an old friend’s kitchen than a shop. They even have a facebook page with recipes and ideas and tons of photos.
‘We have some of the best fish and seafood in the world in Scotland, unfortunately much of it is shipped overseas to France and Spain. Fish is healthy, versatile and really quick and easy to cook, so we want to share our love of fish with our customers,’ retail business manager Nathan MacMillan enthuses.
Jack Taylor has over 40 years wholesale fish experience, supplying many top restaurants in London and throughout the UK, but this is the first retail shop in Aberdeen. Naturally, the fish available varies each day, but the catch is always amazingly fresh – landed the previous day at Peterhead and shipped straight to the store where it is displayed on ice. Only the best fish are selected for the shop, so you can be assured
of outstanding quality.
