Lucy McLeod and her team are creating a bit of a stir at The Dormouse & Teacup, a vintage retro teashop with a difference in Inverurie.

Ask any mother and they’ll tell you that it’s still difficult to find a good place for a cup of tea and a chat, which actively welcomes and caters for children yet still appeals to adults. Often the options come down to plastic ball pits, equally plastic sandwiches or stiff chairs. However, D&T truly succeeds in evoking a home from home atmosphere coupled with gorgeous grub that’s a hit with customers of all ages.

Tiny felt dormice, each with its own name, pop their heads out from shelves, pretty crockery vies with vintage aprons for kitsch appeal and the whole place is an eclectic treat where children are enthralled by the décor and really made to feel at home by the staff.

As one of nine children, Lucy has sought to recreate the atmosphere of busy family mealtimes – full of happy chatter, fun and contentment. Children love the smoothies, fresh fruit juices and milkshakes on offer and both of the menus are carefully designed using quality ingredients, locally sourced where possible, to make fun, balanced and inspired dishes.

Naked Bean Coffee, 14 types of Teapigs tea, as well as a great selection of Fentimans botanical juice drinks will satisfy thirsty adults, as will the rotating menu featuring ten scrumptious types of cake, including a lighter option and a gluten free choice.  The full afternoon tea is a yummy delight, with delicious fruit tarts, macaroons and potted desserts.

It’s easy to see why The Dormouse & Teacup has become such a huge hit since it opened. It’s a real treat for the whole family.
