When planning a holiday we dream of excess. The very thing we try to avoid when packing for it. Beat the additional costs at check-in and the queues at the baggage carousel with a holiday capsule wardrobe.

A leather or canvas weekend bag is the ideal travelling companion for your capsule wardrobe. It is large enough for a week of clothes but versatile enough to be used as a pool, beach or day bag.

Light cotton chinos offer versatility.  Consider two pairs of contrasting colour. Stone, khaki and navy are most common but consider light grey. A pair of jeans offers practicality, particularly in colder weather. They are also great to travel in.

Shorts are a holiday must. A tailored swim short will double up as a dress short but avoid patterns.  Cargo shorts, while practical, can take up room.

A cotton short with an unfinished hem has a slightly longer leg making it a great beach or trek short. They
can be turned up for a more formal look, making them a great option for lunch or a casual dinner.

Pack classic polo shirts and crew neck t-shirts. They have a relaxed fit and are great for the beach or exploring the city. A fitted polo is an alternative to a shirt for more formal occasions. Keep the shirt style simple. White is best.  Stay away from short sleeves.

A light cotton blazer is the ideal jacket.  It can be worn while travelling to save space. Navy will compliment light coloured chinos as well as jeans. Keep footwear simple and lightweight.

A loafer or driving shoe, a classic boat shoe and a plain white trainer compliment all combinations. Flip flops are optional. A reversible black/brown belt is the perfect accessory.

Finally – roll, don’t fold to avoid creases.
