There are two ways of keeping out the cold at this time of year. You can either opt for a bulky all-enveloping duvet-style padded coat, or take the more elegant approach with layered pieces that provide a more streamlined silhouette while still providing warmth.

Thin layers in toning shades work well, but it’s advisable to stick with natural fibres if you are prone to static shocks. Caramel and camel tones flatter most skin tones, but head to toe black can be a little draining, so mix it up with whites or pastel shades or a slick of bright lipstick.  Look for long leather or suede block heeled boots, thin and chunkier knits, cotton or cashmere long sleeved t-shirts, mid length skirts and trousers in wool fabrics. Add scarves and gloves which offer pattern or an eye-catching embellishment. Pile it on, top it with a shearling gilet or faux fur and you’re good to go…
