Home-made canapés are easy to make, and the perfect way to use up leftovers – be bold and be experimental! Using a ready-made puff pastry sheet, make all your leftovers into a paste (chicken, bacon, potato etc.), spread onto the pastry and roll into pinwheels for a delicious and substantial canapé. Pair with some mini Welsh Rarebits, which are always popular.

Christmas pudding and blue cheese crumbled up on crackers and served with a wee shot of port – it shouldn’t work but it does! Try topping rice crackers with cream cheese or flavoured hummus, or try beetroot and goats cheese – yum! For a really quick option, oven warm some salted nuts and serve in a warm bowl, or warm some shortbread rounds, then dust with cinnamon and serve with a dollop of brandy crème fraiche.
