It doesn’t seem like ten years since Duncan and Jacqui Grant first opened their bespoke fine jewellery business, but Lava Jewellery Design has emerged as one of the North-east’s best designer-makers of engagement and wedding rings. They produce stunning bespoke pieces and can even remodel family heirlooms or transform old jewellery into something to treasure.

Jacqui has a tremendous flair for design and an innate understanding of what will flatter each client. She explained, ‘Our design process is very much a collaborative effort, whether it’s remaking an old necklace into something more contemporary, or creating a client’s dream engagement ring. We love being part of the really special moments in our clients’ lives and producing pieces that rekindle those memories whenever they are worn’.

Each design comes to life in the onsite workshop, where Duncan, who is recognised as one of Scotland’s most meticulous and highly-skilled craftsmen, works in wax or precious metal, setting stones and polishing Lava’s very special creations to perfection.  Every piece is a miniature work of art.

Some of their more unusual commissions include making Viking jewellery for the Guizer Jarl at Up Helly Aa, the Shetland fire festival and a miniature Star Wars lightsabre. Even the Prince of Wales is a fan having received one of Lava’s striking silver and blue diamond kilt pins as a presentation gift!

The team at Lava are also well regarded for their repair work, restoring broken treasures to top condition. The bright showroom in Peterculter and the company’s website are also stocked with a great selection of Lava’s silver jewellery ranges, inspired by Scotland’s scenery and heritage.

Lava will be celebrating their 10th birthday at the end of October. Celebrate with a gift for yourself!
