Fashion, it seems, has tired of austerity and luxe minimalism and has gone a little crazy.

Catwalks blossomed with fringing, sequins, bows, embroidery, feathers and encrustations of crystal in almost every conceivable combination.

Louis Vuitton showed immaculately cut Regency frock coats with silver embroidery and Thom Brown went with gloriously impractical candy floss clouds of white feathered cuffs.

Stella McCartney and Valentino both added ruffles to asymmetric necklines, while Moschino showed feathered tutus. Moncler Gamme Rouge channelled a symphony of silver, while Chanel opted for pleated and embellished tulle. Skirts were wider, and everything is about confidence, drama and flounce.

It’s not a season for fading into the background.

Naturally, high street versions are less extravagant, so it’s worth shopping around to avoid pieces that follow the trend but look tawdry. Think high end Las Vegas rather than out of season Blackpool.

Above all, avoid anything that makes you look like you’ve inexplicably fallen into a dressing up box filled with glitter and chickens!
