One of the city’s best respected and loved hairdressers is taking a step back from the business and handing over the reins to his long-term protégé. Dick Taylor of Salon 70 has entrusted the day to day running of the business to Sarah Jane Ironside, who has worked with him since she was apprenticed at 15.
The salon, which is known for its happy, friendly atmosphere and highly skilled team of six staff, attracts a mix of younger clients looking for fashionable cuts and colour work, and more mature clients opting for timeless flattering styles.
Sarah Jane explained, ‘Dick established Salon 70 thirty five years ago and has built up one of the leading West End salons. His skills and experience are unparalleled. Over the years, Dick has been responsible for some of the most stylish hair for men and women in the North-east.
‘It has always been my dream to run the business and it means so much to me that Dick has asked me to step forward and take over the day to day management from him. I don’t plan to change anything at all; Dick has built a brilliant salon, with friendly customer service, great staff and wonderful clients.
Sarah continued, ‘Ever since I started, Dick has been like a second father to me. Over the years, he’s supported his staff and customers through life’s ups and downs. Dick’s just an incredible person. He’s been more than a hairdresser to us all. He’s been a mentor, friend and confidant as well as a brilliant stylist. Thanks to Dick, when clients step out of Salon 70, they not only look great, but they feel great too!’
