This summer fashion takes a nostalgic wander back to the 1970s, reviving everything from western cowgirl fringing, denim and the softest of suedes, to boho floaty chiffons and florals for evenings.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Seventies retro revival: over the past few summers there has been a huge following for hippie styles and looks. Balmain gave us crochet, Gucci gave us the western touch and Chanel crafted beautifully floaty dresses long enough to hug the entire catwalk.

For casual day styles, introduce textures like denim and linen, keep it feminine with embellishments like embroidery or fringing, a fringed scarf or waistcoat are key for this season. Look for denim with girly embroidery on pockets and cuffs. The ‘prairie girl’ look is popular so try plaits in your hair and floral headbands.

Formalwear mimics some of the 70s fashion staples, for work try high waisted navy trousers, a chiffon blouse with a stacked heel boot and a saddle bag. Suede plays a pivotal part in seventies revival, look out for a brightly coloured suede item like a jacket or skirt and incorporate this into your workwear.

Floral patterns and light materials are big news in eveningwear. Mix textures like chiffon, thick crochet and lace trimmings on dresses and gypsy style tops. Longer lengths in skirts and dresses, bell sleeves on tops and wide leg palazzo pants evoke the seventies effortlessly – perfect if you want to create your own version of Saturday Night Fever.
