Jessica Carle on why becoming a mum has put a fire in her belly

Jessica Carle launched Solasta Skin seven years ago, and the popular brand quickly gained nationwide media attention. Alongside running wellness events, Jessica has recently launched a luxury swimwear brand fittingly called Solasta Swim – with a leading focus on sustainability. Having partnered with CleanHub, she’s determined to help prevent plastic entering the ocean whilst proving that slow fashion can in fact, be sexy.

Before I had my son who has just turned two, my own wellness practice looked very different. From the beginning though, I deliberately created multipurpose products. The body scrubs are two in one exfoliants and moisturisers, the beauty oils can be used four different ways and the face oil works morning and night. Now that I’m a mother, I’ve become exactly the woman I created the brand for. Motherhood has definitely made me think about mothers far more in everything I create. It has also fired me up; I want to show my son that if you work hard, take risks, and your intentions are pure, it can pay off. I want him to experience a planet that’s been cared for, to swim in clean waters and minimise his exposure to toxic materials. It’s a huge part of why both of my brands are built the way they are. Mothers are always checking in on everyone else, making sure everyone else is okay. I always encourage my customers who are mums to sit and ask themselves, when did you last check in with you? I love so much of motherhood, every new experience feels precious. The lack of sleep at the beginning was a huge shock though. Everyone says sleep when the baby sleeps, but when you run your own business that’s almost impossible. There’s a perception that you can’t chase your dreams and have a family. That’s something I want to challenge. I love building these brands, I’m so passionate about them and I love being a mum. I know this season isn’t forever and I won’t get this time back, so on the days when there hasn’t been much time for me, I remind myself of that. Go to solastaswim.com
