Prising your little angels away from the Xbox or their phones is never easy, but it’s not just thumbs that need a bit of exercise. Luckily, David Lloyd Aberdeen offers a great programme of fitness activities designed for toddlers to teens.

They’ve recently added nine new Les Mills ‘Born To Move’ classes, running across daytimes, evenings and weekends. Each class is designed for a specific age range, so that the music and movement exercises are tailored to suit. Children build skills, grow in confidence and have fun with new friends their own age. Better still, they’ll be building positive attitudes to physical exercise that will last a lifetime.

David Lloyd Aberdeen have four qualified Les Mills ‘Born to Move’ instructors. The class for 2-3 year olds encourages parents or guardians to interact with their child through movement and encouraging interaction with other children. The 3-5 year old class lets the children experience the session without parental supervision and uses simple movements to explore how bodies work, developing self-awareness, balance and concentration as they interpret music and explore movement.

Fundamental movement skills are introduced in the 6-8 year old classes with kids helping to choose the music for their programme, with a greater emphasis on visual instruction through simple choreography. Finally, the 8-12 year old classes introduce movements that the children will go on to use if they attend classes as adults later in life – kicks, punches, jumps, dance moves and relaxation techniques, alongside interactive games to harness teamwork skills.

Why not drop the kids off and spend some time in the gym, taking one of David Lloyd Aberdeen’s many adult fitness classes or just opting for a relaxed time-out over some coffee or a snack in the café?
