David Lloyd Clubs Aberdeen member Garry Corbett has been playing tennis at the club for almost 10 years.

A busy company director he receives regular coaching from the Adult Tennis Professional who he calls Mark ‘Peter Pan’ Malcolm.  We asked Garry about his time playing tennis at David Lloyd Clubs Aberdeen:

Why did you take up tennis? I was getting too old to play football so I decided it was time for a non-contact, but still competitive sport! My first step was the David Lloyd tennis welcome with Mark at the club.

What is the best thing about playing at David Lloyd Aberdeen?  It’s a great social opportunity for me.  I’ve made some quality friends; I love a good run around and it doesn’t feel like exercising when you are chasing a ball. I seem to be improving given that I hadn’t really played before I joined David Lloyd.

What would you say your individual style of tennis is?  Unorthodox, many people say very annoying. Lots of running, chasing and getting balls back.

How has tennis helped you in other aspects of your life? Tennis keeps me fitter than I would be and helps me relax and de-stress.

How has your tennis coach helped you improve your game?
Mark has made various fine-tuning and constructive coaching adjustments over the years.

What tips do you have for people wanting to get into tennis? Go for it. Keep at it and you will get better. Try and play people better than you to improve even if  you get a hiding to start.
