DESCRIPTION:Friday 29 September 12-8pm\nAND\nSaturday 30 September 10am–4pm\n  \nThe Cornerstone Foundation\, the charitable arm of Scottish care provider Cornerstone\, has received support from over 80 artists as it launches its first fundraising art fair.\nScottish artists including Chris Busche and Francis Boag\, who both studied at Gray’s School of Art\, will be supporting the charity event which is being held at Robert Gordon University’s Sir Ian Wood Building on 29 September. \nOne artist in particular has felt compelled to support the charity ever since the mid 90’s when he also studied at Gray’s School of Art. During his student years\, contemporary artist Michael Samson volunteered at a drama class where he met Willie Forbes\, who is supported by Cornerstone. \nSince then\, Michael has taught art to a number of individuals supported by Cornerstone in various community settings and Willie has repeatedly participated in his classes\, as well as modelling for a portrait. \n \nMike said: “Willie is an amazing man who I’ve continued to bump into over the years.  In general\, the groups from Cornerstone were incredibly creative when I worked with them on a range of ambitious projects. There was always a really supportive\, inclusive and happy atmosphere in the classes. \n“Without fail\, the dedication of Cornerstone staff and the quality of service provided has never failed to impress me\, which is why I am very pleased to be involved in raising funds for the life-changing work of the charity.” \nThe Cornerstone Foundation will use the funds generated to do some amazing things that help the people Cornerstone supports to lead a valued life. They are appealing for further donations of art work from artists to help them reach their target of 100 pieces for the exhibition sale. DESCRIPTION:This year’s artist is Michael Samson\, who makes a return visit after his great success in 2013 that drew a large audience\, who watched him develop a charcoal sketch and a large acrylic painting.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichael studied at Dundee and Aberdeen and graduated with an Honours Degree in Drawing and Painting\, a post-graduate diploma in Art & Design and a Masters Degree in Fine Art. \nKnown for his Contemporary Scottish Landscape paintings and drawings\, Michael paints\, exhibits and teaches in the North East of Scotland. On completing his studies at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen\, Michael toured Europe on a travelling scholarship with the Royal Scottish Academy and won a number of national awards. His weekly art classes currently cater for over 150 enthusiastic students and he leads cultural trips to Italy twice a year. His recent artwork also includes a number of prominent portrait commissions. \nDuring the evening Michael will describe what he is doing and answer questions from the audience. While painting he will explain his techniques of choosing colours\, building the composition etc. The painting produced\, will be auctioned on the night. DESCRIPTION:Paralympian Steve Brown will be the star of the show at an annual fundraising event in Aberdeen in aid of UK-wide children’s charity Action Medical Research.\nSteve\, who was captain of the wheelchair rugby team in the 2012 London Paralympics\, will take centre stage at the Aberdeen Ladies’ Lunch at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa on Thursday\, 16 March 2017. \nLast year guest of honour Connie Fisher helped to raise more than £10\,000 to save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children and hopes are high for the event’s 20th anniversary in March. \nSteve\, who was paralysed after a spinal cord injury in 2005\, now works as a TV presenter – including presenting at the Invictus Games – and a mentor\, coach and public speaker; in 2015 he was named among the Power 100\, a list of the most influential people in Britain with a disability or impairment. \n“We’re very much looking forward to welcoming Steve as the speaker at this year’s Aberdeen Ladies’ Lunch – he’s a truly inspirational man and we really look forward to hearing about his personal highs and lows\, including the pressures of captaincy at 2012\,” says Janet Balcombe\, Action Medical Research’s Community Fundraising Manager for Scotland. \nTickets for the lunch\, organised by the Aberdeen Action Medical Research Committee\, include a glass of Buck’s Fizz and a delicious two-course lunch. DESCRIPTION:The Ballater Highland Games is known as the Friendly Games in the local Games circuit and has something for everyone\, young and old alike. On Games Day in Monaltrie Park there are Pipe Bands\, piping and highland dancing competitions\, track and field events\, including the heavies with tossing the caber\, tug o’ war\, and our hill race up Craig Coillich and back.  \nWe also have a variety of interesting trade stalls and a fun fair\, not exclusively for the children\, all contributing to a great day out! To complete the day\, everyone can enjoy Beating Retreat by the Pipe Bands at 7pm on the Church Green in Ballater. \nIn 2016 the Games will take place on Thursday 11th August in Monaltrie Park (AB35 5RG). Gates open at 10am\, competitions start at 11am\, and the formal opening with the raising of the Games Standard is at noon. \nAdmission prices are: adults £8; children £2; car park £2. Competitors simply pay for admission on the day\, and are then free to enter any competitions.
