After a busy weekend of shopping and merriment, the cosy and relaxed atmosphere of the Ferryhill House Hotel was just the place for some much-needed R&R and good home-style cooking.

Situated in leafy Ferryhill, just a stone’s throw away from the city centre, the Ferryhill House Hotel has long been a popular dining haunt for families looking for an afternoon meal with the kids, friends enjoying a chilled-out afternoon with glass of wine over lunch, or couples enjoying date night in the newly refurbished restaurant’s ambient conservatory.

The restaurant offers a diverse and varied menu, with good hearty food for the traditional foodies;  wholesome fare including Sunday roast, macaroni and cheese, and steak and Guinness pie.  And for those who like their dishes with a bit of a twist, the chilli bowl, coconut chicken, and lamb rogan josh will keep the taste buds buzzing.

Now the words ‘curry’ and ‘soup’ are not usually nouns I’d put together, but the smells emanating from the kitchen enticed my taste buds to give the starter a try. Thick and rich, with only a hint of a little kick, it was very pleasing on the palate
of a somewhat fussy eater.

Returning to more traditional fare, the hearty chicken roast was a sight to behold.  With al dente vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, perfectly prepared roast potatoes, and succulent, melt in your mouth chicken, it was all the gastronomic fun of a Spring-time Christmas.

After such a culinary feast, I was sufficiently filled to the brim, but I felt it would have been downright rude not to at least try one of their light and fluffy sticky puddings. It was a tough job, but someone’s got to do it, and the Ferryhill House Hotel was the perfect place for the task.
