It’s been over 10 years, since Jan Leiper opened her Innocent Aesthetics Clinic in Aberdeen.

It all started for Jan after she qualified as a nurse in the NHS in 2002. Having furthered her specialist knowledge and qualifications in the aesthetic field, she now specialises in delivering an impressive array of injectable rejuvenation treatments, supported by the latest technology in the aesthetic industry. Always looking to drive development at Innocent Aesthetics, Jan introduced the most advanced, non-invasive aesthetic equipment and procedures, such as Ultherapy, BTL Exilis Elite, Vanquish ME, Intima, X-Wave, Laser Hair Removal, Derma Pen, PRP Dracula Therapy, Thermavein, Injectable Radiesse, alongside other treatments such as skin peels and cosmeceutical skincare from Obagi and iS Clinical. In 2010 Jan added to her qualifications by becoming an Independent Nurse Prescriber. This allowed her to expand the clinic further by employing other practitioners. Today, Jan manages a specialist team of ten and has further specialist support from the plastic surgery consultant team at Elanic Clinic in Glasgow’s west end.

We asked Jan:

What has changed over the past 10 years?
“Over the past ten years our perception and acceptance of facial rejuvenation has changed. Years ago it was almost taboo to contemplate facial rejuvenation, however now as a nation, we are more aware through social media about the subtle changes we can make without drastic surgical intervention. Result-driven clients with a positive ageing mindset, are focusing on beautification and striving for a certain look. Combination therapies are becoming far more popular now as clients not only want the youthful look that injectables can assist with, but also are aware of the benefits of using devices based on ultrasound or radiofrequency, such as Ultherapy or Exilis Elite, which can strengthen facial muscles and tighten skin resulting in a totally natural appearance. Clients are also determined to have flawless skin and are becoming more aware of the advantages that dermal pen or skin peel techniques can give them. All these therapies come together with personalised, tailor made professional skin care. More clients are becoming aware of the effects of ageing and are looking for the ageing option to preserve youth before it changes their look completely.”

What are the new regulations coming in 2017?
“From April 2017, it will become illegal for independent clinics to perform aesthetic treatments such as toxin and filler injection, if they are not registered with HIS. Innocent Aesthetics are registered with Healthcare Improvement Scotland and approved by Save Face for the second year running. Times are changing and as a professional organisation it is essential we protect the public by providing confidential consultations, ensuring our clients are aware of all the options available, and the practitioners take responsibility for delivering safe treatments, demonstrating total commitment to professionalism.”

Jan’s Models Treatment Plan

Screen Shot 2017-05-10 at 09.22.12

Our injectable choice for both clients was Juvéderm Vycross technology, Volite, Volbella, Volift and Voluma. These are hyaluronic acid fillers supported with lidocaine for a softer pain insertion. They base their treatments around Dr Mauricio de Maio’s ‘MD Codes’ which is a revolutionary programme designed to optimise products efficiently and effectively. With the models my aim was to create a soft and natural look using 3-4 ml of the Juvéderm Vycross Range creating a positive 3-dimensional structure. I decided to perform an outer cheek augmentation on both clients. Although structurally they are both very strong candidates, I wanted to lift the lateral cheek to create softness but to deliver a high-profile look. Visually both models have a strong jawline but maybe a little too masculine, so I softened their chin creases and extended the base of the chin to elongate the lower half of their faces. Lip augmentations were performed on both clients correcting volume and enhancing projection. Using a cannula I also corrected mild signs of lateral mid-face sagging by softening the lower naso-labial lines and Botox was administered to the forehead to enhance brow position.
